Welcome to our class web page!
My name is Teri Herda, and this is my
21st year of teaching in the Bellingham School District. I graduated from W.W.U. and have obtained
my Master’s Degree in School Administration. I am very excited about working with your child. My husband John and I have a son who is 15
and a daughter who is 10 years old.
They both keep us very busy!
In room
22 we will be studying Maps and Globes, Northwest Coastal Indians, and Early
Days in Bellingham . We will also be
taking a look at the following science unit: Electricity, Plant Growth, and
The Seashore.
We have
been reviewing Basic Needs and learning about how to resolve problems. Second Step, our schools social skills
program, will be taught throughout the year.
We are
using a writing workshop format five days a week to develop writing as a
process. There will also be mini
lessons on writing mechanics, writing forms, and writing strategies. I will also continue to instruct the
students on how to incorporate the six traits of writing into their different
pieces.
Problem
solving is a daily event in room 22!
We are not only becoming good communicators in math, but also
explaining our mathematical thinking in writing! We will be focusing on graphing, reviewing basic facts, place
value, and adding and subtracting bigger numbers, multiplication, division,
measurement, geometry, and fractions.
I will run my reading
groups Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Every Friday we have Book Talk and discuss different chapter books
students have been reading during the week.
On Mondays I provide my students with nonfiction reading material by
using Time For Kids, a weekly news magazine.
