Welcome
to Geneva
Elementary School in Bellingham,
Washington Our school is located at
the eastern end of the city of Bellingham, near the shores of Lake Whatcom. The
region is full of lakes and forests, mountains and islands. Bellingham
celebrated its centennial in 2003. Visit the Early Lake Whatcom Links
to learn a bit about our history. Mr. Danielson has been
teaching since 1989, with experience in first, second, fourth and fifth
grades, as well as experiences in multi-age classrooms and pre-school. He was
the recipient of a Gates
Grant Award in the Teacher
Leadership Project, which supplied his room with a bank of eight computer
workstations. Bellingham School District has since also received a Gates
Grant that put computers in other classrooms. Since 2003, Mr. Danielson has
participated in the North Cascades &
Olympics Science Partnership (NCOSP) as a Science Teacher Leader for Geneva
Elementary School. Our fearless leader at NCOSP is former astronaut, Dr. George “Pinky” Nelson. This year the Geneva
Science Team was formed. It includes Julia Ritchie and Julie Batten (2nd
Grade), Jennifer Magnusson (4th Grade), and fifth grade teachers
Jaylani Evans and Lara Crome-Guthrie. In addition, Mr. Heritage is a member
of the group, and I include Tom Gresham (4th Grade and Principal
intern) in my communications. This year’s Teacher on Special Assignment
(TOSA) from NCOSP is Mike D’hondt. In 2003 our class won a
Shining Star Award from the Environmental Protection Agency for monitoring UV
radiation at our school on a daily basis. As part of the SUNWISE program, our class provides
information that helps the EPA improve its ability to predict UV radiation. Check out some |

So sometimes my hair is messed up! I’m proud of my
heritage. Here’s a picture of my ancestor, a sergeant in the 13th Indiana
Cavalry in the Civil War. See? Messy hair is a family trait! |
